4 Ways Covid-19 may affect your wedding flowers
Seasonality
Couples and florists alike have been so fortunate to have the flower growers expand their operations to supply some of the most beloved stems almost year-round. Weddings have become such an expansive business and growers have followed suit and heard the demands of event designers to provide the beautiful commodity in an astounding volume. Unfortunately, these growers are being impacted as well. These businesses rely on florists of all kinds to purchase their flowers to keep their businesses alive. Due to the mandated closer of non-essential businesses and the postponement of all weddings and events, growers will be forced to throw away thousands of blooms and with the lapse of new business, many of our favorite farms will be forced to close. This will limit the blooms that will be available to florists once business resumes and will likely impact the cost. We are sure to see a shift back to seasonal blooms based largely on the farms that remain operational. Seasons will eventually get back to a new normal but will be greatly affected for the rest of this year.
Inventory
A lot of our inventory items such as vases, candles, pedestals, etc are made in China and around the world. Production and shipments are being halted which will cause a shortage in some of our everyday products. Most florists have a pretty good inventory to rely on but this is something that may need to be discussed.
Flexibility
Be flexible with your designer When you select your floral designer you do so with trust and confidence that they are fully capable of executing your vision. This is the time to let them do what they do best and shine! Let them get creative with substitutions, allow them to make suggestions you may not have considered and most of all trust their ability to create a design that will match your aesthetic! Of course feel free to ask questions, do your own research and follow up on details to make sure you feel comfortable with the overall design. This is going to be an interesting time for designers. They will be pushed to use creativity and their talents in ways they haven’t been forced to do in the past. Trust that they have your best interest in mind and work together to create the perfect design for your day!
Dates
Dates will be limited. Whether you are postponing your wedding or planning your wedding you are going to want to lock down your vendors ASAP! Floral designers are doing their best to accommodate clients that need to postpone which are taking up available dates for the rest of 2020 and into 2021. Check-in with the designer you are working with or interested in working with and see what their availability looks like. Not only florist, but all wedding pros are going to have unusually full calendars so plan ahead! Details can be worked out in the planning process but you don’t want to wait on booking your date!
